TAMPA – Yesterday, at the Florida State Fairgrounds, the Paxon SAS Seniors were named winners of the 2011 Florida LifeSmarts Competition. The high school team from Jacksonville beat nine other teams who had qualified online to participate in the game-show style challenge open to students, grades nine through 12.

LifeSmarts is an educational program created by the National Consumers League and sponsored by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Through online challenges, LifeSmarts teaches teens to be smart and responsible consumers and citizens. Topics focus on personal finance, consumer rights and responsibilities, health and safety, technology and the environment.

Students who participate in the program gain consumer knowledge, access to information, awareness to resources, and the ability and confidence to participate in today’s dynamic global marketplace.

As the winner of the Florida LifeSmarts competition, the Paxon SAS Seniors will go onto to compete in the National LifeSmarts Competition, held April 30 through May 3, 2011, in Los Angeles, California.
