Tallahassee, FL – Commissioner Adam Putnam released the following statement today in support of Congressman Steve Southerland’s proposed State Waters Partnership Act.

“Any nutrient reduction strategy should focus on measurable environmental and biological improvement, while optimizing cost and efficiency. Florida is best positioned to assess the health of our waters and establish water quality criteria for the protection and restoration of Florida water bodies because we have the track record to implement and data to support the development of safe water quality standards under the Clean Water Act.

I applaud Congressman Southerland’s efforts to reduce the barriers and influence of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and will continue to work closely with the Florida Legislature in certifying Florida’s standards.”
